The Travel industry recognises that protecting customer money and ensuring that customers receive services and holidays for which they have paid, is a matter of major importance to those who book travel. It therefore operates a number of schemes to ensure that its customers are not left out of pocket when an airline, operator or agent fails. You should contact your organiser or the company direct to find out what protection they have given you.
Package holidays booked through those who hold an Air Tour Organisers Licence (ATOL) should be covered and you can contact the Civil Aviation Authority (www.caa.co.uk) to find out how you will be helped.
Other information can be found at http://abta.com/holiday-help-and-complaints/travel-company-failures.
If you booked with your credit card then you may be able to secure a refund through that company and ultimately of course you may be a creditor to the company itself and should contact the appointed administrator.
Some of our customers have elected for an additional insurance to cover financial failure. If they have then your company will be able to provide you with details of who to contact to discuss your situation and whether you have a valid claim.
Important Information for Independent Travellers and Flight Only Bookings
If there are elements of your holiday that are not protected as described above then you should consider purchasing additional insurance for the financial failure of these providers (e.g. airlines, accommodation suppliers, car hire companies, theme parks and other end suppliers). The link below will take you to a site containing details of travel insurance products which you may find useful in deciding whether they are appropriate and suit your requirements.
